Engineered to win

Hyperfluid is a student team designing, building and racing a CO2-powered car in STEM Racing.

Carbonated whoosh

Small car. Full race team.

We design the car, engineer it, manufacture and test it, find our own partners and present our work to the judges.

Our logo comes from the start line: the burst of CO2 that leaves the cartridge as the car launches. That moment is what every part of the project is built for.

Meet the team

20 metres. One cartridge.

STEM Racing, formerly F1 in Schools, is an international competition where student teams design, manufacture and race miniature cars.

Every car is launched by a single 8-gram CO2 cartridge and covers the track in about a second. With the power fixed, the stopwatch rewards engineering: less drag, less mass, less friction. Teams are also judged on their engineering, enterprise and presentation.

Where the time goes
Forces on a STEM Racing car Side view of a car facing right. CO2 from the cartridge pushes it forward. Drag at the nose and friction at the wheels push back, and the car's mass resists every change of speed. THRUST DRAG FRICTION MASS

The car

From first sketch to finished body, the car is designed, made and tested by the team.

  • Aerodynamics

Body, wings and wheel fairings shaped to keep drag as low as the regulations allow.

  • Manufacturing

Machined, finished and assembled to tight tolerances, because every gram and millimetre counts.

  • Testing

Measured on the track, then refined. Each iteration has to earn its place.
